Detailing Explained

We often get asked by our customers what detailing is and what the differences are between wax products and paint protection sealants.

Detailing is the process of correcting paintwork to remove imperfections and gives your Porsche that deep, glossy showroom shine you get with a brand new car.

Protecting your Porsche is one of the best investments you can make so we’ve put together an explanation of the main differences between wax and sealants to help you choose the best paint protection for your Porsche.

Wax VS Sealant

There are many different options available on the market these days for paint protection, what is the best option for your Porsche?

Wax

More commonly known and used on the market, wax is the easiest protectant to apply to your Porsche and can be applied professionally by an expert or done by you, the owner. Swissvax have spent a lot of time, money and effort in to researching and perfecting one of the world’s finest wax ranges.

7 out of the 15 waxes in the Swissvax range have been developed alongside manufacturers including Porsche, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Ferrari, and Mercedes, to make sure that it truly brings out the very best in the paint, whilst thoroughly protecting it. As it bonds with the paintwork, the wax has been developed to produce a deep, glossy shine that will shimmer and shine under any lighting conditions.

Paint Sealants

A more modern, scientific take on Paint Protection are paint sealants. Both Koch Chemie and Gtechniq offer paint sealant solutions, with Gtechniq’s Crystal Serum offering over 7 years of protection with the correct care and maintenance!

A paint sealant forms a harder bond with the paint, thus providing a higher level of protection. A paint sealant can help to defend your paintwork against:

  • Minor abrasions
  • Road grime, grit and salt
  • UV protection

Once a paint sealant has been applied to the surface, the bond is so strong, it is impossible to remove it. Both Nano and Ceramic paint sealant’s are made up of tiny particles that sink into the pores of the paint to form a protective shield with a hard ceramic finish.

These paint sealant solutions will commonly cost more than a wax protection and can only be applied by a fully trained professional that has been shown the correct techniques and application processes.

Protection Films

Designed to sit on top of the paintwork, protecting it from minor abrasion, stone chips and even harmful UV rays.Take a look at this video from Reep Group to see how ProFilms protects paintwork.

Conclusion

Your choice of paint protection for your Porsche ultimately comes down to preference and cost. A wax protection is the ideal solution for anyone who loves to be hands-on. Both wax and sealant products can produce the ‘Lotus leaf effect’ that is desired by any car enthusiast. The application of either product will have water and dirt beading away from the surface making cleaning far easier.
