Porsche Boxster 981 Review / History

The third generation Porsche Boxster known as the 981 was released in the Uk during 2012 and boasted a significant body re-design, reflecting that of the 991 version of the 911 range. Having a 40% more torsionally ridged chassis and a reduction in weight from previous models are but a few of the reasons this car has been described as one of the best handling sports cars by the motoring press. Available with a 2.7 or 3.4l engine with the option of either a six speed manual or 7 speed PDK transmission, both models seeing an increase in performance and with increased fuel savings on previous generations. A Porsche model range wouldn’t be considered complete without the addition of a special model and the 981 was not going to disappoint with the arrival of the 981 Spyder boasting a 3.8l engine with a six speed manual transmission delivering 371bhp and achieving a 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.
